What is Personal Care and am I eligible for it?
Personal care may not be what you think it is. Personal care is a service that is designed for each individual, who is in need of companionship or help with daily activities. We offer services that range from companionship to helping with showers and light housekeeping. The private costs for care are going to vary from agency to agency and will depend on a number of factors ranging from location, average daily hours, the level of care, to the type of services provided. How do I pay for these services?
Personal Care Services are not covered by Medicare. There are two ways to pay for in-home senior care; the individual can either pay privately for the services or seek out a county/municipal program that may subsidize the service. Regardless, in-home private care is almost always dramatically less expensive than care received in a nursing home or other type of long-term care facility.
If the individual or family is unable to financially commit to the cost of private care, there are a number of programs available at both county and state levels. These plans are designed specifically with the goal of keeping people out of nursing homes for as long as possible.
Where can I apply for subsidized county benefits?
Tender Care works with both Davis and Salt Lake Counties. They have programs referred to as the “Aging” program, the “Alternatives” program or the “Aging Waiver” program. Every county has these types of programs. They provide Personal Care services, homemaking services, small home repair services, and many other services to the senior members of their communities.
There are a number of programs and services available and a few options to pay for them. The main purpose of each of these programs is to maintain the quality of life, safety, security, health, comfort and dignity of the individual physically, emotionally, financially and socially. Tender Care is happy to provide information on these resources to you and act as your liaison in regards to these programs.
Who performs the Personal Care Services?
Licensed caregivers called CNAs or Certified Nursing Assistants and NAs called Nurses Assistants perform Personal Care Services. All Tender Care’s CNAs are certified by the State of Utah, are CPR and First Aid certified, are trained monthly and are evaluated quarterly by RNs. All Tender Care's NAs are CPR and First Aid Certified, trained monthly and are evaluated quarterly by RNs. The agency is licensed, insured and bonded.
